Some companies believe whole-heartedly in their incentive programs and other companies do not believe in giving rewards at all. In all probability, the way to motivate an employee is going to be different in each situation and with each employee. But overall, what method of motivation seems to work best?&lt;span class="fullpost"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In every hiring situation both the worker and the employer agree upon a salary for the given job description. It seems as though an employer should not have to give bonuses or prizes in addition to the worker's salary. If the employee does not accomplish the job he was hired to do, he should get fired rather than get threatened with just an absent bonus.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Library Personnel News journal illustrates an example of an unmotivated worker to show the importance of employee motivation to a company's bottom line. They show that if an employee who makes $25,000 a year wastes one hour a day the company will lose $3,200 of equivalent work time by year's end. It becomes astounding when the figures used come from a salary of $75,000 or when two salaries are added together.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Motivating a reference librarian is probably easier than motivating, for example, a grocery store clerk because the person who chose the public sector position will likely be the person who is more motivated to help the public. But beyond being a little extra motivated to help the public, the librarian is human like all other workers, which means that she is not immune to being unmotivated. A discussion on motivation in private sector work environments can be compared quite accurately to motivation in a public library. There are customers (patrons), bosses, and problem-employees at both institutions.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Some organizations prefer to motivate with cash. Behlen Manufacturing Co. in Columbus, Nebraska is a medium-sized company with about 1,400 employees. On a monthly basis, the company gives a minimum of $250 to the employee who comes up with the best idea for increasing safety or productivity.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Nucor Corp. in North Carolina is a large company with 8,000 employees. This company uses weekly cash bonuses to motivate its workers. The amount a person gets paid has to do with the amount of output that gets produced by that employee. The employee's base pay can be as low as one-half that of other similar companies but the bonuses can be as high as 200 percent of their hourly wage. He believes that the secret to motivating employees is money. The steel producer generated a record $4.6 billion in revenue last year. This proven system is about giving the responsibility to lower level employees. Senior officers at Nucor earn their income the same as the ground floor workers—they get a lowered base salary and are given bonuses of up to 200 percent based on the company's success. It seems that money is a good form of motivation. Having a portion of the worker's salary dependent upon the amount of production appears to work well for Nucor and would probably motivate workers in other lines of work as well. On the other hand, extra monetary compensation can be pretty costly and people are likely to take it for granted over time.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;David Rowley says that many managers are surprised when presented with research indicating that cash is not an employee's number one motivator. Cash does, however, motivate people to take a job and continue to work at that job. As soon as a particular pay level has been attained though, motivation tends to diminish. The author believes that this problem of being unmotivated by cash is becoming worse because of the increasing level of wealth in our society. Since these needs are met immediately after being hired, it is easy to lose motivation when all we are working for is more money. The fourth need on Maslow's Hierarchy is of self-esteem. The first thing we need to do is set goals for ourselves. This is just a step backward in the personal motivation search. Goals are of utmost importance in gaining personal motivation. They give us the push we need to get the job done.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It is a good idea to write down your goals. This makes it easier to see them on a daily basis and be reminded of what you are reaching for.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Another great strategy is to write up a contract between you and yourself and state the goals in it. Then sign and date the contract. You might even put a deadline for the goals to be met. It is just another way of pushing ourselves into doing something we want.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We also need to look at the objectives. The objectives are going to be what it will take to get us to our goals. Be specific with your objectives. It is a good idea to have your objectives measure what and when the goals need to be done. For instance, an objective might be like this: I will lose 10 pounds in 1 months time.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;After our goals have been set and we know exactly what our expectations of ourselves are, then it is time to go to the next step. The next phase to personal motivation is making a commitment to keep after these goals until they are met. Keep pushing on, and then maybe even raising our standards higher.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Never look back on past failures. This really does nothing for our self-esteem. It will only set you back to dwell on the mistakes you have made in the past. We need a pat on the back for hard work and effort. If a person has the personality of a quiet, shy type of person, their motivation will come from living within that personality.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;They are more likely to get motivated in different ways to that of a person who has a loud and bold personality. If a person has a go-getter personality then their motivation will be strong and vivacious, with a nothing can stop them type attitude.&lt;span class="fullpost"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Personality has a big impact on how we are motivated in our lives. Motivation and personality are definitely connected.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There are three basic personalities that seem to be motivation for what we do and who we want to become.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;1. The need for power&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This personality has a strong desire or drive to make people act or behave in a way that they would not otherwise behave.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This type of motivation is usually found in a strong-willed person. They like to be in charge of situations. The motivation is more for power and prestige than doing a great job.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;2. Need for achievement&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This type of personality has a strong drive to excel. This person usually strives to succeed at everything they try.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;They avoid really hard tasks as well as really easy tasks. They like 50/50 odds and are not gamblers. The motivation is to achieve it on their own with their own skills.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;3. Need for affiliation&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This type of personality has the need for strong interpersonal relationships with others. This person is usually a soft-spoken quiet individual.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This person strives for friendships. The motivation for this personality is being cooperative rather than being competitive. They seek mutual understanding.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There are also combinations of one or more of these types of personalities, as well. They determine what motivates a person to do the things that they want and need to do.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Whichever personality a person possesses, they need to start with goal setting to achieve motivation. The first step is setting goals that are realistic to your specific needs and wants.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Try not to set these goals too high, nor too low. Either one of these will cause undesirable results. The goals must be possible to attain or they are useless to us. This step is essential to motivation. You can't be motivated if you do not have goals.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Rewarding yourself for your hard work and effort is another essential part of learning motivation. There must be rewards for a job well done. It is what keeps us going.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Motivation and personality do go hand in hand. As you can see, different people and personalities are motivated by different drives. After you do the hardest one it's all downhill from there. You gain momentum with each task that you get done. Your attitude improves. If it is not possible for you to do so at that time then make a mental or written reminder to call her right after you finish what you are doing. Train yourself to be action oriented. Rather than being passive take a proactive stance with this habit so that you can break it. Not only are you breaking the procrastination habit but you are also replacing it with a positive one in the process.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;b&gt;Severe Procrastination-Someday I'll Get Around to It.&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Example: Lose Weight.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;What to do: Look at your current situation and honestly assess the negative effects that procrastination have had on you. Now think in terms of possibilities. What can you do if you would change. Write down some of the things that you could do, become or have as a result of eliminating procrastination from your life?  After you finish writing those things down write a list of what you can do to obtain what is on your list. I had just played one of the worst games of my young career. He looked me straight in the eye and with deep love and enthusiasm said, "Nolan, you are harder on yourself than anyone could ever be." He was 100% correct. Initially I used that statement to motivate myself. I used it to make sure I pushed myself. I was content, but NEVER satisfied with my performance. I never rested on my laurels. It was truly a sensational tool. Over time that same statement started to take on a second meaning for me. I started to believe that no one could motivate ME better than I could motivate ME. Even though I always played team sports I started to consider myself a one-man team. I was THE Team within a team. Despite my success in high school and college sports I always had these two conflicting thoughts playing over and over and over and over in my mind. When my coaches pushed me, I pushed back. Internally I was vibrating feelings of resistance.&lt;span class="fullpost"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I couldn't understand why they were pushing me harder than I was pushing myself. I remember thinking, "Don't they know how hard I am trying? I gave it everything I had." My external world was frustrating. All because my internal world was in conflict. I was creating a mental barrier that was blocking my TRUE potential. My desire and my performance was suffering. Can you relate? In 2004 I was sitting at my desk frustrated with my job. I was fed up with how I was being treated and how my bosses kept pushing me to do things I didn't want to do. Sound familiar? I decided to sit in a chair and ask myself what I really, really wanted in a job. I also asked myself, where I wanted to work. Without limitations. To my surprise a book arrived on my desk that very same day. A book that transformed my way of thinking and helped me take a step forward toward changing my life. That book was a 1911 classic written by Wallace Wattles.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A pragmatic manual that describes how to create wealth, prosperity, happiness, and much, much more. Since that first reading I've received two promotions, added 6 streams of income, written a book, and coached dozens of people in the art of thinking their way to their goals and dreams. What a turnaround. What a change. Today I'm proud of all the things I've accomplished. I have so much to be thankful for. The list goes on and on. I extremely proud of how I used my dad's words and that book to motivate me to continually strive toward bigger goals. To make the decision to follow my dreams. And to make the choice to live an advancing life. As an extra bonus that book showed me how I could demolish the mental road blocks that previously caused me to struggle and resist change. It has given me a system that allows me to choose success over failure. Once you make a decision to sit down and ask yourself what you truly want, the people, resources, and knowledge you need will be magnetized into your world. You'll be mega-motivated in a way you've never experienced before. We never get things done if we do not feel motivated to do it. Sometimes the motivation is external - you do something because you will absolutely get into trouble if you do not do it. Or you do something because it is the "cool" or "in" thing to do, and everyone else is doing it. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Yet the most worthwhile type of motivation is internal - the fire that blazes right within you. Why? Because when the motivation is internal, you will do it the absolute best way you possibly can - you will give it everything you have got. Otherwise all you will give is a half-hearted attempt at the cause.&lt;span class="fullpost"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If you need to do big things, better things, your motivation needs to come from within. And once you blaze that fire inside you, there is no stopping you. You become extremely productive. You automatically give it your best shot.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So how do you develop internal motivation? And can you even develop it?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Let me answer the second question first. Yes, you can. Why? Because you are interested in improving yourself. You have come to this website seeking ways for a better life. You are not content with where you are in life and are ready to actively take measures to improve it. So there is a candle burning inside you. Now all we need to do is shield it and turn it into a strong, sustained, burning, blazing passion.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Now off to the first question. How do we develop internal motivation? Let us discuss some strategies.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Is it the right goal? What are you seeking motivation for? Is it a worthwhile goal? Is it big enough to challenge you and touch the skies your spirit was made to conquer? Is it really your goal? If you are feeling unmotivated, may be the thing you are trying to do isn't right for you. Maybe it is something you are doing for the sake of others and not yourself. Maybe it is not big enough to make your spirit open up.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Is it aligned with your life's purpose? Each person has a life purpose they are here to fulfill. It could be a burning desire or passion that you keep shoveling to the darkest corners of your heart because it doesn't seem "reasonable." If your life's deepest wish it to be a painter, then motivating yourself to be a pilot will probably not be okay with your subconscious.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Why should you do it? Write down the reasons why you should be doing this. Make sure it makes sense to you, and is not just something that others would approve of, or sounds good. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Why are you not doing it? If it is indeed the right goal for you, and it is aligned to your life's purpose, then why are you not doing it? Please take the time to ponder this question. Write down the goal and write down the reasons why you are not doing it. Is it because you are afraid of what others would think? Does the immense world of possibilities and growth and potential scare you? Then I suggest you tackle your fear first.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Is it because you are too old or too young? These are all relative terms. If you want to go ahead and do something, there is no rule that says you shouldn't do it (unless of course, you are a minor and you want to try something that is illegal for minors to do - in which case you probably wouldn't be seeking motivation here anyway). When you look back at your life from your death bed, will you feel that you have done what you wanted to do? If not, it may be a good idea to do it now. Is it because it seems unreasonable? Every worthwhile goal seems unreasonable at some point or the other, to someone or the other. If you really have the passion for it, go ahead by all means. That said, don't give it a half-hearted attempt, scared about failure. If you are going to do something, really do it. Give it your best. Be enthusiastic and happy about it. Work really really hard for it. And work really really smart for it.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Is it because your family doesn't approve? Is it because your friends or society will brand you as weird? Is it because your spouse is holding you back? Is it because you are too busy? Is it because you don't know enough? Is it too risky? &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In this case, you need to remember a simple fact. You are responsible for your own life. Any other external factor that you may need to change, is your own responsibility to change. It is your responsibility to associate with those people who will help you grow. It is your responsibility to learn time management skills so you can delegate effectively and make time for your interests. It is your responsibility to utilize your skills effectively. It is your responsibility to research the areas of your passion and know enough about it before you take the plunge.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It is not your responsibility to make everyone like you. It is not your responsibility to sabotage yourself to be with someone who is not good for you. It is not your responsibility to say yes to everything people ask of you. It is not your responsibility to stick to a life path that doesn't make sense to you and doesn't let you grow. Assertiveness could be a handy skill in dealing with these circumstances. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Have you exhausted the reasons for not doing it? If yes, then you probably are already motivated to go ahead and take the plunge. If not, then please go back to the step before. There maybe underlying reasons which you haven't fully explored. If you have a good enough reason for not doing it, and nothing seems to make that reason go away, then don't do it. It is not the right goal for you. Even if the reason is just a "gut feeling." In that case, you need to contemplate your own passions, and find a goal worthy of your time and your life.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If you have done all the steps successfully till now, then there is a good chance you are already brimming with enthusiasm and are raving to go. You would be willing to work really hard on it - to stay up late, get up really early and work on it. You would be willing to educate yourself about it to the utmost extent. You would be feeling the passion ooze through your veins as you just think about it.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You would be ready to conquer the skies you were made for. It seems simple enough, and yet managers and team leaders tend not to realize how obvious it is.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The secret to motivating staff and other employees may surprise you and when I tell you the secret you may just stop reading the post because you'll just say to yourself "well that's stupid of course that works, now tell me something I don't know". So when I tell you the secret, promise me you'll keep reading because this secret really does work, and it's very powerful for many reasons.&lt;span class="fullpost"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So what's the secret you ask? The secret is this: People act the way you tell them they're acting. Dumb huh? Think about it though. If some one you know, or don't know walked up to you and said to you, "you are a jerk", chances are you would tell them where they could go. If not, at lease the next time you see them, you probably would not act kindly toward them. In other words, you would kind of act like a jerk.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;On the other hand, if someone walked up to you and said: "You know, I've been watching you deal with some of the people around you, and I can't tell you how nice it is to see someone so friendly." Chances are, if someone said that to you in a sincere way and you believed they meant it, you would think they were very nice, and you would treat them very nicely. In fact, I would go as far as to say that when you see them, even if you are having a bad day, you would put a smile on your face and act they way they told you you were acting.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This motivation tactic works in many instances. Let's say for example that you are overly busy at work and there are customers waiting in line to see you. By ignoring those customers, you will find that eventually they seem to grow more and more on edge. If however you yelled out to the those waiting in line, "thank you all for waiting, I really appreciate how patient all of you are", you will find that you just put them all at ease and now they will all try to be more patient.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This is where it get's interesting. Let's say as another example that you turned to the line of waiting people and said instead, "sorry about the wait, I know you all are really frustrated it will just be a little longer", you will find you get the opposite effect from the first example.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Why, does this happen, because it allows the people inline to know you understand if they want to act frustrated and you open the gates to a now bigger problem. Again, this is simply because people will act the way you tell them they're acting.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Next time you see an employee who looks like they're slacking off, instead of walking up to them and saying you're being a slacker you need to get going, try walking up to them and saying wow, of all the people here, it's nice to know I can depend on you to keep busy, you are a real asset to the team. What is it I want my readers to realize about Motivation? and what behavior do I want them to exhibit after they read this article pertaining to Motivation? So with those and several other questions in mind, I begin my research.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: arial;"&gt;Motivation is basically our human needs, reasons, and or desires that determines our behavior. In essence, motivation is the cause or reason that influence our actions or human behavior. It is the reason we act the way we do. Two of our basic desires are to minimize or avoid pain and maximum pleasure. Subsequently, we may have the desire to start a home based business to minimize the affect of a potential job lay-off.; and to maximize the experience of having more time with our family along with the potential to create an unlimited monthly income.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: arial;font-size:100%;" class="fullpost" &gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Therefore, these reasons motivate (influence) us to engage in our home-based business whether it be network marketing, internet marketing (affiliate/information product), and or direct sells. We have these internal reasons or desires to continue our work at home even when we sometimes ask ourselves, "what are you doing?"&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There are several Motivational Concepts or Needs Theories but the one that I can identify with is American psychologist Abraham Maslow's Hierarchy of Human Needs Theory. Maslow theory states that we all have needs. These are basic survival needs, mental needs, and then there is the highest need to fulfill our life goal or dream. His theory states, we cannot progress to the next level of needs until the lower need is minimally satisfied. Our wants and desires influence our behavior to get these needs met.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;The following is Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs Theory listed from the basic - lowest to the most complex - highest:&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Physiological - These are basic needs all humans seek, i.e. food, rest, shelter, clothing. A person who is hungry and perhaps homeless is not necessarily overly concerned with the next level of needs until these basic survival needs are met. Their primary objective is food for the day and some form of shelter for the night.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Safety - This need according to Maslow becomes a motivating factor once our physiological needs have been fulfilled. We have food, shelter, and clothing now we are concerned about being "safe" and feel protected. We want to be protected from a job lost which could cause severe pain...&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Belongingness - I like to call this the need for relationships - we need some type of companion. Once our basic needs are met and we feel safe and protected from "harms way" now we are ready to share our lives with someone or something. We have a need to be loved.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Esteem - or Self Esteem is an individual's feeling of their worth. I would say it is similar to self-respect, self-worth, and self-regard. Typically, we all want to be respected and feel valuable and beneficial to others. We have the need to be recognized and appreciated. Essentially, we have to exemplify respect, worthiness, and possess a high regard for ourselves in our behavior in order to receive it from others.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Self-Actualization - this is the final level of psychological development and only a few individuals reach this level. According to Maslow's theory, "it gave individuals a desire or motivation to achieve budding potential". This is when we fulfill our heart desire our dream and reach our full potential. When we get to this point in life we feel we are living life on Purpose, we are doing what we were created to do. I am so thankful because this is where I believe I am ;-). It was not an easy journey but I am so grateful I have the desire the need to purse my dream and to continue my journey. There have been some highs and some real low lows but I am so appreciative that my desire to continue this journey and be successful far out weighs the fear (pain) of failure. .&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So lets go back to my original questions: My motive for writing an article on Motivation was to explain to my readers that there are certain needs, desires that are in us and in an effort to fulfill those desires, our behavior my be misunderstood. I want my readers to realize that your motivation determines your behavior or actions. Nevertheless, all of us are not at the same psychological development level, according to Maslow's Needs Theory. Thus, at times it may be incomprehensible to some people why our actions are not similar to theirs. If our basic physical and mental psychological needs have been minimally satisfied; we then have a motivation (need or desire) to pursue our life goals and dreams. Conversely, there are others who may be operating in fear; they have a need for safety and to be protected from economic loss - fearing lost of income. The answer to the third question I want this article to motive my readers to be proactive rather than reactive; waiting for a job lay-off and then struggling to meet your financial obligations. When I was a child, my grandfather would tell me "son you can do anything you want do in life, but first you must want to do it" I never understood what he meant by that until I joined the military. If you really want to do things in life you must first have the motivation to get it done. Without motivation you will fail at everything you attempt to achieve.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: arial;font-family:arial;" class="fullpost" &gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;No two people are motivated in the same way and we are all driven by something or somebody. I have seen too many people in my life time that are just going through the motions everyday, and they can not find motivation to set goals and objectives for themselves. It's like that ole saying "if you don't stand for something then you will fall for everything". Sometimes in life when you are trying to find motivation, you have too be a little selfish and think about yourself and the things you want out of life. I am not saying you should neglect the people in your life that are important to you. I am saying that in order to help them, you must first help yourself. You should be motivated enough each day to do something that makes your life better. Have you ever have one of those mornings where you get up and it takes everything within you to find the strength to go into work. Do you work in a job that you are not motivated to perform, but you know you can't quit your job? I have never had a job that I did not like, because I found a way to make the job work for me. Finding motivation each day to go into work can be a challenge. I have worked with and for people that others just simple hated to be around, but I was able to find motivation to work with these people. The reason I could work with these types of people is because I always treated them with dignity and respect. I also show them that I cared about them as a human being. I was able to find motivation and I was able to help others around me find motivation to reach their goals and objectives in life. Some people are motivated by money and other may be motivated by power and acclaim. Whatever it is that motivate you it is important to find that source of motivation on a daily basis.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When I was in the military I would start each day by saying I will not let anyone steal my joy today. By going into work with a positive attitude, I was able to handle some of the stressors that comes with the job. I did not walk around all day smiling, but I did have a sense of peace and calm about me. My motivation each day was to do something or learn something new. Each day should have a purpose and we should be motivated enough to reach or achieve the purpose. Without purpose and meaning to our lives, we are just robots that are program to perform tasks each day. I am nobody's robot and I refuse to let others dictate my day. We have overcome conflict and negative emotions to perform better, to outdo our own expectations, and sometimes just to live. It's almost always impossible to achieve what we want to, at the very onset of our expedition. We could fail often but staying motivated and looking at the bigger picture gets us to the end. What works for one may not work for another; some people believe that a great way to de-stress and up his or her motivation is by self-indulgence. Learn tai-chi or kickboxing to vent out your frustration and anger, if any. Enjoy every moment of the activity. Socialize and learn what's happening in your friends' lives. By deeply and sincerely wanting something and working towards attaining it, you'll most definitely make it a reality. You could have friends or relatives who have no faith in what you're pursuing. But you have to believe that single-minded devotion could get you where you want to. Self-belief is the key to staying motivated. Only you know why you're doing what you wish to. Try making people see your perspective. But if they are bent on being despondent about your chances, you're better off without them. Walk away from a situation that would potentially do you harm. There are some people who love to see others fall down and hurt themselves; keep such people out of your life.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Don't put off things that you can do now for tomorrow. Therefore when you feel like you do not want to continue on with a task remember why you started the task in the first place. When you find a task is getting mundane and you are developing a negative attitude toward the activity it is time to make it fun. For example, you might be trying to get in shape but hate visiting the gym every day and walking on the treadmill. Think of a physical activity that you enjoy. As you achieve each of these mini goals reward yourself. Maybe you are trying to get and A in Biology in school. Your mini goals can include good grades on your tests and homework. For each grade that is 90 or better reward yourself. Take a night off from studying and go out with friends or spend a few hours reading that mystery novel you have been dying to finish. Whatever you choose make sure it is a special treat for you.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Find a Friend&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Sometimes our friends and family can be great motivators. Choose someone who can really lift your spirits and keep you moving in the right direction. Nominate this person as you personal cheerleader and let them know you are relying on them to keep you moving and motivated.
